Professor Irène Couzigou researches in the field of general Public International Law, including International Human Rights Law at the University of Aberdeen. Her current research focuses on International Law on Peace and Security, especially International Law on Cybersecurity, International Law on the Use of Force and United Nations Law. In the framework of the Guest Lecture Series on Current Issues in International Law and Global Security, Peace and Development, she delivered a guest seminar on “International Law in cyberspace” on 4 October 2023.

Dr Sarah Thin is an Assistant Professor in International and European Law at the Department of International and European Law. She is a member of the Research Centre for State and Law (SteR). Dr Thin specialises in public international law, in particular state responsibility, international environmental law, human rights, and the law of international courts and tribunals. In the framework of the Guest Lecture Series on Current Issues in International Law and Global Security, Peace and Development, she delivered a guest seminar on “Climate and treaty-making” on 11 October 2023.

Dr Miriam Bradley is a Senior Lecturer in Humanitarian Studies at the University of Manchester. She studies international responses to conflict, violence, and migration. Dr Bradley is especially interested in how theoretical approaches from IR can enhance understanding of humanitarian policy and practice, and how such policy and practice can in turn shed light on theoretical questions from IR.  In the framework of the Guest Lecture Series on Current Issues in International Law and Global Security, Peace, and Development, she delivered a guest seminar on “Not war nor peace: Regulating the use of force in the context of large-scale criminal violence” on 18 October 2023.

Dr. Larysa Zhdankina is a guest Lecturer at the University of Strathclyde. In the framework of the Guest Lecture Series on Current Issues in International Law and Global Security, Peace, and Development, she delivered a guest seminar on “Compensation for wartime conduct: Ukraine’s claims against Russia” on 1 November 2023.

Stefano D’Aloia holds master’s degrees in law and economic sciences as well as a complementary master’s degree in tax law and a specialization master’s degree in international law. Since November 2020, he has been on leave from the FPS Finances (Federal Ministry of Finance) and obtained a mini-ARC scholarship to complete a doctorate at the Center under the supervision of Anne Lagerwall. He is a member of the War Experience Research Center ( CREG ) and the Occupation Studies Research Network.  In the framework of the Guest Lecture Series on Current Issues in International Law and Global Security, Peace, and Development, he delivered a guest seminar on “Occupied territories and de facto States resulting from an illegal use of force” on 8 November 2023.

Dr. Matthias Goldmann holds the Chair of International Law at EBS University. He is also a Senior Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg. Previously, he worked as a Junior Professor at Goethe University Frankfurt from 2016 to 2021. In the framework of the Guest Lecture Series on Current Issues in International Law and Global Security, Peace, and Development, he delivered a guest seminar on “Morally repulsive but legally fine? International law and the non-restitution of colonial objects” on 16 November 2023.

Dr. Mari Takeuchi is a Professor of International Law at Kobe University. Her research interests include the jurisdiction of States, especially the issues of extraterritoriality in various fields of law (international criminal law, corruption, sanction law, data protection). In the framework of the Guest Lecture Series on Current Issues in International Law and Global Security, Peace, and Development, she delivered a guest seminar on “Universality of universal jurisdiction in international law” on 22 November 2023.

Lauri Mälksoo is a Professor of International Law at the University of Tartu in Estonia. He is a member of the Estonian Academy of Sciences and since 2021 member of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (the Venice Commission). In the framework of the Guest Lecture Series on Current Issues in International Law and Global Security, Peace, and Development, he delivered a guest seminar on “The Russo-Ukrainian war and insights from the history of international law” on 29 November 2023.
