How to Apply

Applications for September 2024 entry to ILGSPD are now open for self-funded study. 

You can apply as

  • an Erasmus Mundus scholarship-funded student (deadline to apply for the scholarship was the 19th of January 2024)
  • a self-funded student 

All applications for the ILGSPD programme and Erasmus Mundus scholarships must be submitted online to the University of Glasgow. We cannot accept applications any other way.

You have 42 days to submit your application once you begin the process. You may save and return to your application as many times as you wish to update information, complete sections or upload supporting documents such as your final transcript or your language test. Following the EU’s announcement (11/02/20 https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/about/brexit_en), having left the EU in an orderly fashion, the UK remains able to coordinate and take part in EMJMDs for the lifetime of the funding period. The ILGSPD consortium looks forward to receiving applications from students from all countries around the world, from both self-funded applicants and EMJMD scholarship applicants.

As a UK-based institution, University of Glasgow will fully participate in Erasmus+ until further notice.

We will keep all students and applicants up to date with information as it becomes available.

To apply for a postgraduate taught degree you must apply online. We cannot accept applications any other way.

Required documents

As part of your online application, you also need to submit the following supporting documents:

  • A copy (or copies) of your official degree certificate(s) (if you have already completed your degree)
  • A copy (or copies) of your official academic transcript(s), showing full details of subjects studied and grades/marks obtained
  • Official English translations of the certificate(s) and transcript(s). IBEI require a certified (EU) or legalised (non-EU) copies of your undergraduate transcript and degree diploma to be submitted to the University of Glasgow, if offered a place on the programme. 
  • Two reference letters on official letter headed paper and dated within the last 2 years of the date of submission of your application:
    • At least one of the two references should be an academic reference. One may be a professional reference where it is not possible to obtain two academic references. 
    • When completing your application, please do not enter your referee details, as we are unable to contact your referee. Please upload one reference via the reference section and the second reference as an additional document.  
    • If your referee prefers their reference to remain confidential, they can email the reference to erasmusreferences@glasgow.ac.uk, provided the email is from your referee’s professional email account and contains their full employee name and address. We will not accept references sent from personal email addresses or via a third-party.
  • Evidence of your English Language ability (if your first language is not English) *
  • A copy of the photo page of your passport
  • CV -we recommend that you use the Europass CV format
  • Scholarship form or Personal statement and pathway preference form (Please see below)

Scholarship Applicants only:

ILGSPD Erasmus Mundus scholarship form (download) 

Scholarship application form which includes a personal statement (max 1,000 words) in which you are asked to detail the following:

  • motivation for choosing the ILGSPD programme; 
  • your suitability for the ILGSPD programme; 
  • an explanation of research interests and placement aims/practice aims and 
  • a Study Track preference in Semester 3 bearing in mind the requirements of the Semester 3 partners  (see Entry Requirements)
 

Self-Funding Applicants only:

**Study Track preference semester 3: Applicants should note that study track preference is not guaranteed. We endeavour to try our best to accommodate your first option choice but please note that your choice is subject to quota availability and academic suitability for a particular pathway. Any applicant who has not been allocated their preferred study track will be given a two-week window in which to confirm acceptance of an alternative pathway or decline their offer

*Please note, evidence of your English Language ability (if your language is not English) must be uploaded by the Scholarship application deadline of 19 January 2024. 

Please note, in order to be considered for a scholarship, you MUST have submitted ALL of the above documents by the submission deadline of 19 January 2024. If your application status is ‘Holding for Documents’ then you will NOT be considered for a scholarship unless you submit the required documents by the submission deadline of 19 January 2024. The only exception to this is your final degree certificates and transcripts where an applicant is still currently studying.

Self-funded student may be made a conditional offer pending receipt of an English language proficiency certificates, and final degree certificates and transcripts where an applicant is still currently studying. They will be required to submit the relevant documentation by 31st August 2024. 

Guidance notes for using the online application

These notes are intended to help you complete the online application form accurately; they are also available within the help section of the online application form.

  • Name and Date of birth: must appear exactly as they do on your passport. Please take time to check the spelling and lay-out.
  • Contact Details: Correspondence address. All contact relevant to your application will be sent to this address including the offer letter(s). If your address changes, please contact us as soon as possible.
  • Choice of course: Please select carefully the course you want to study. As your application will be sent to the admissions committee for each course you select it is important to consider at this stage why you are interested in the course and that it is reflected in your application.
  • Proposed date of entry: Please state your preferred start date including the month and the year. Taught masters degrees tend to begin in September. Research degrees may start in any month.
  • Education and Qualifications: Please complete this section as fully as possible indicating any relevant Higher Education qualifications starting with the most recent. Complete the name of the Institution (s) as it appears on the degree certificate or transcript.
  • English Language Proficiency: Please state the date of any English language test taken (or to be taken) and the award date (or expected award date if known).
  • Employment and Experience: Please complete this section as fully as possible with all employments relevant to your course. Additional details may be attached in your personal statement/proposal where appropriate.

Reference: Please provide two references. This should typically be an academic reference but in cases where this is not possible then a reference from a current employer may be accepted instead. Certain programmes, such as the MBA programme, may also accept an employer reference. Please esnure you upload two references as part of your application. *Please note that you can upload as an additional document. 

Choice of Pathway: Applicants should note that study track preference is not guaranteed. For applicants whose first language is not English, the University sets a minimum English Language proficiency level.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic module (not General Training)

  • 6.5 with no subtests under 6.5
  • Tests must have been taken within 2 years 5 months of start date. Applicants must meet the overall and subtest requirements using a single test.
 

Common equivalent English language qualifications

TOEFL (ibt, my best or athome)

  • 79; with Reading 19; Listening 20; Speaking 20; Writing 24
  • Tests must have been taken within 2 years 5 months of start date. Applicants must meet the overall and subtest requirements , this includes TOEFL mybest.
 

Pearsons PTE Academic

  • 59 with no subtest less than: Listening 59;Reading 60; Speaking 59; Writing 74
  • Tests must have been taken within 2 years 5 months of start date. Applicants must meet the overall and subtest requirements using a single test.
 

Cambridge Proficiency in English (CPE) and Cambridge Advanced English (CAE)

  • 176 overall, no subtest less than 169
  • Tests must have been taken within 2 years 5 months of start date. Applicants must meet the overall and subtest requirements using a single test.
 

Oxford English Test

  • Oxford ELLT 7
  • R&L: OIDI level no less than 7 with Reading: 25-26 and Listening: 18-19
  • W&S: OIDI level no less than 7
 

Trinity College Tests

  • Integrated Skills in English II & III & IV: ISEII Distinction with Distinction in all sub-tests.

Glasgow International College English Language (and other foundation providers)

  • 65%.
  • Tests are accepted for academic year following sitting.
 

University of Glasgow Pre-sessional courses

  • Tests are accepted for 2 years following date of successful completion.
 

Alternatives to English Language qualification

  • Degree from majority-English speaking country (as defined by the UKVI including Canada if taught in English)
  • students must have studied for a minimum of 2 years at Undergraduate level, or 9 months at Master’s level, and must have complete their degree in that majority-English speaking country and within the last 6 years
  • Undergraduate 2+2 degree from majority-English speaking country (as defined by the UKVI including Canada if taught in English)
  • students must have completed their final two years study in that majority-English speaking country and within the last 6 years
  • For international students, the Home Office has confirmed that the University can choose to use these tests to make its own assessment of English language ability for visa applications to degree level programmes. The University is also able to accept UKVI approved Secure English Language Tests (SELT) but we do not require a specific UKVI SELT for degree level programmes. We therefore still accept any of the English tests listed for admission to this programme.

 If you decide to apply for the Erasmus Mundus Scholarship, you should specify your student category (Programme or Partner Country) on the application form. For further details, see Scholarships.

Applications will only be considered for scholarship funding if they are submitted by 19 January 2024 with all the required documents. Please note that if you wish to be considered for a scholarship, you will be required to submit proof of English language proficiency by 19 January 2024. The only exception to this are final degree certificates and transcripts where an applicant is still currently studying. Final degree certificates and transcripts will be required by July 2024.

Self-funded students may be made a conditional offer pending receipt of an English language proficiency certificates, and final degree certificates and transcripts where an applicant is still currently studying. They will be required to submit the relevant documentation by August 2024.

*Partner Country group = Rest of the world

APPLICATION DEADLINES

Scholarship applications – 19 January 2024 (you must include all required documents and proof of English language proficiency by this date)

Applications close (for International self-funding applications): July 2024

Applications close (for UK/EU self-funding applications): August 2024

Programme offers will be made on a rolling basis. Applicants should be aware that once we meet our programme quota, the application process will be closed and no further offers will be made. 

Applications will only be considered for scholarship funding if they are submitted by 19 January 2024, complete with all required documents. 

If you get an offer of entry to the Programme but are unsuccessful in getting an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship and you wish to self-fund your studies, a £1000 deposit will be required to secure your place.

Please note that if you do not uptake your offer of a place, your deposit will be fully refunded.
