Estephany and Arunava present at the AHRI Annual Conference
On September 12th, Estephany León Rodríguez and Arunava Banerjee presented their paper “Securitizing Human Mobility in the Global South: Migration Policies in Peru and India,” at the Annual Conference of the Association of Human Rights Institutes (AHRI) in Lima, Peru. The AHRI conference is one of the most prestigious academic spaces in the field of human rights.
Their project was originally conceptualised during the Immigration Integration Policies course at IBEI, Barcelona, in their second semester of the programme.
Reflecting on their achievement, the pair said: “Being able to present our research and work at this international forum was a truly enriching experience for both of us. Our panel generated thoughtful discussion and valuable feedback, including the attendance from Manfred Nowak, former UN Special Rapporteur on Torture.
Currently, we are working on incorporating and discussing all the valuable comments and feedback as we work toward finalising our manuscript.”
Augustine presents at the EUNPD Next Generation Workshop
Each year, the International Affairs Institute (IAI), with the support of the EU Non-Proliferation and Disarmament Consortium (EUNPDC), organises the Next Generarion Workshop on non-proliferation and disarmament. At the 2025 Workshop, Augustine Ushie spoke in the third session on “Emerging Technologies and Arms Control”, where he presented on EU-Africa relations in the control of small arms and light weapons.
Augustine said his participation “provided a valuable platform to exchange perspectives with researchers and practitioners, and it strengthened my understanding of how cooperation, governance frameworks and technological developments intersect with global arms control efforts.”
