Dr Marie-Laurence Hébert-Dolbec

Marie-Laurence Hébert-Dolbec is a Lecturer at the Université libre de Bruxelles. Her research activities focus primarily, but are not confined to, international criminal law. As part of her doctoral research, she examines the status of the victim in international criminal law and discourse. She draws on critical approaches from law, sociology and criminology to highlight the contradictions that have led to the current approach to victims under international criminal law and the place they occupy more generally in the project of international criminal justice .

Dr Hébert-Dolbec was a visiting scholar at the University of Glasgow in Autumn 2022 (15th to 17th October).

Dr Andrea Varga

Andrea Varga is Lecturer in International Law at the University of Glasgow. Her research interests include the law of (state) responsibility and attribution in particular, secessionist entities in international law, rights and obligations of non-state actors, intra-state peace agreements in international law, the interaction between human rights law and general international law, and judicial reasoning at international courts and tribunals – especially the question of how parties’ pleadings influence that reasoning.

In 2022, Dr Varga was a visiting scholar at the University of Tartu (19th to 23rd October), and at Université Libre de Bruxelles (7th to 10th December).

Prof Lucas Carlos Lima

Lucas Carlos Lima is a Professor of International Law at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) and an associated member of the Institut de recherche en droit international et européen de la Sorbonne (Université Paris I). He regularly writes on global legal and political issues, particularly those involving international courts and tribunals, conflicts, international organizations, environmental issues, human rights and Brazil’s legal foreign policy. He also acts as a consultant for States, International Organizations and Non-Governmental Entities in his areas of expertise.

Prof Lima was a visiting scholar at the University of Glasgow in Autumn 2022 (31st October to 3rd November).

Dr Lea Raible

Lea Raible is a Senior Lecturer in Public Law at the University of Glasgow. Her research is in the areas of international and constitutional law, as well as their relationship with political philosophy. She is particularly interested in questions concerning the value of territory, political community, and how they interact with human rights. She has written on a range of topics, including the extraterritorial application of human rights, human rights adjudication and participatory democracy, and the theory and practice of referendums.

Dr Raible was a visiting scholar at the University of Tartu in Autumn 2022 (31st October to 3rd November).

Prof Gleider Hernández

Gleider Hernández is Professor of Public International Law at Katholieke University Leuven. Since 2021, he is Secretary-General of the European Society of International Law; Member of the Editorial Board of Global Policy; and the Academic Review Board of the Cambridge International Law Journal. Prior to his academic career, Gleider served as law clerk at the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and was called to the Barreau du Québec and practised as a barrister at Fasken Martineau LLP.

Prof Hernández was a visiting scholar at the University of Glasgow in Winter 2022 (2nd to 4th November).

Dr Eleni Methymaki

Eleni Methymaki is a Lecturer in International Law at the University of Glasgow. Previously, she was Departmental Lecturer in Public International Law at the Oxford Law Faculty (2022–2023), Research Associate at the Faculty of Sustainability, Leuphana Universität Lüneburg (2021-2022), and Research Associate for International Law at the University of Glasgow (2016-2018). Her primary area of research is International Law, with particular interests in international dispute settlement, and the international-domestic interface.

Dr Methymaki was a visiting scholar at the University of Tartu in Winter 2022 (6th to 11th November).

Dr Ilaria Espa

Ilaria Espa is Associate Professor of International Economic Law at Università della Svizzera Italiana and Senior Research Fellow at the World Trade Institute (WTI) in Bern. Her areas of expertise include international economic law, with a focus on trade regulation, international environmental law, and EU law. She has published extensively on issues at the intersection of trade and sustainability, mainly in the areas of climate change, energy and commodities, as well as on the law governing the sustainable management of natural resources.

Dr Espa was a visiting scholar at Leuphana University of Lüneburg in Winter 2022 (6th to 10th December).

Beasley
Dr Ryan Beasley

Ryan Beasley is Senior Lecturer in International Relations at the University of St Andrews. He is primarily interested in decision-making processes, with particular emphasis on motivated reasoning and small group dynamics. He has also done work on public perceptions, US foreign policy, and role theory in international relations.

Dr Beasley was a visiting scholar at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) in Spring 2023 (30th April to 6th May).

Charles Ho Wang Mak

Charles Ho Wang Mak is a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Law at Robert Gordon University. He has also taught at the University of Glasgow and the University of the West of Scotland. His research focuses on insolvency law, sovereign debt restructuring, trust law, financial regulation, technology law, and dispute resolution. 

Charles was a visiting scholar at the Institut Barcelona d’Estudis Internacionals (IBEI) in Spring 2023 (28th May to 1st June).
